Growing up rooted in nature.
We offer distinctive outdoor sessions for kids with broad age ranges in Metro-Detroit. Enjoy mindful experiences that flow with your child and foster a connection to this Earth and to each other. Options include drop-off & child-caregiver sessions in addition to Tinkergarten-style classes.
Collaboration
Nature brings us all together. It’s where we are from, where we are going and where we thrive. Root-Ed offers opportunities for youth to build something meaningful together, to lend a helping hand, to support one another. Through open-ended play and unrestricted access to the great outdoors, Root-Ed nurtures the strength and well-being in each of us.
Resilience
“There are two lasting gifts we can give our children. One of them is roots and the other is wings.” – Unknown
Confidence is inherent in resilience. Time spent outdoors, among peers, in a neutral environment builds self-belief, the key ingredient to lasting confidence and the ability to both discover and stay true to what matters to each of us.
Mixed-Aged Play
There is much to be learned from those in a different stage of life than ourselves. By allowing children to spend time with others in a different age group, they are given the opportunity to not only learn from someone who’s been there, but to build leadership skills, foster compassion and practice self-control – all in the most relaxing, yet curiously stimulating, environment of all: the great outdoors.
Mindfulness
Imagine taking a step outside of a bustling building or a stressful workroom and inhaling deeply. This is the release, the “high” and the charge we receive each and every time we step into our natural world. At Root-Ed, children are given the gift of effortless connection – to each other and to their surroundings through this natural clarity that engrosses us outdoors. They are given the freedom to roam, to discover and to notice… notice what’s there – inside… or out.
“I believe the best way to begin reconnecting humanity’s heart, mind, and soul to nature is for us to share our individual stories.”
— J. Drew Lanham
Support For Parents
Root-Ed is not just for kids. It was created out of a need for more of what is right – more nature and more companionship for kids and more time, space and energy for parents. Attend one of our family sessions if your “bucket” needs filled with peace, clarity & joy or choose a drop-off if you need “you time”, self-care, “another minute” or some space!
Kid got a knack for snacks?
Kids prep co-op snacks together each week in our nature space. On Winter days our leaders bring a special, pre-prepped snack from home.
In addition to our distinctive group nature sessions, we are pleased to offer weekly classes that follow the Tinkergarten curriculum. Join your child for a class full of joy, singing, sign language, movement, discovery and learning – all outdoors!
